Why noise protection on roads and highways is so important

The Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) and the Traffic Noise Protection Ordinance (16. BImSchV) stipulate binding regulations for the construction of new roads and highways or modifications to existing ones. Maximum decibel levels are specified depending on the type of area (commercial area, residential area, town center/village area, sensitive areas such as schools or hospitals) and time of day (daytime & nighttime). Noise barriers are a proven means of complying with these limits and ensuring quality of life in the surrounding area.
